How to Properly Clean Your Windows: Our Tried-and-True Cleaning Process
Windows are essential to your home’s beauty and comfort; they offer a beautiful view of your outdoor space, protect the inside of your home from the elements and they let in sunlight to brighten up your home. Because they are so key to a home, they see a lot of action. It’s wise to keep your windows clean so that they keep functioning as they should.
Window glass can get dirty pretty quickly, particularly with little hands or pets in the home, but lucky for you glass cleaning isn’t that hard. Many Pella Windows and Doors windows have easy-clean features that also make it painless to clean the exterior of your windows from the inside of your house, too. Looking for an easy, new window cleaning process? Here’s what Pella Windows and Doors swears on:
- You can start by brushing off your window sill with a small broom or brush. The dirt and dust that gathers on the sill and ledges will stay there for a long time otherwise, and cleaning it out will also prevent smearing on the glass later on. Do not use the same cleaning cloth that you will eventually use to clean the glass!
- Run your vacuum’s dusting brush attachment along the side of your window screen that faces inside. You can also use this vacuum piece to pick up any leftover dirt and dust around your sills.
- Use a premixed vinegar-based cleaning solution, or an ammonia-free glass cleaner like Windex® or Sparkle® to clean your glass. You can make your own vinegar-based solution by mixing one-part white vinegar to 10 parts water. Generously apply the cleaner to a clean, lint-free cloth or paper towel and wipe down your glass from several different directions for the best clean.
- Let your windows air dry after cleaning and then rinse your glass with clean water if you see streaks.
We’ve got a few more tips, too! We suggest that you clean your windows on a cloudy day because the sun will dry the cleaning solution quicker and leave streaks on your glass. Also, our Pella Windows and Doors professionals favor microfiber cloths since they are the least likely to leave tiny particles behind.
Take care of your beautiful view, protection barrier and light source by keeping your windows clean all year long.
